NaNoWriMo 2010

Yep, I've officially lost my mind.  No need to ask.

Actually, I was perfectly content to skip NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year.  Not even some lousy 20k goal.  Just skip it.  Then I received one of those lovely pep talks in my inbox.  The pep talk itself didn't change my mind, but it did remind me of the Young Writers Program that NaNoWriMo offers.  After doing a little reading, planning, downloading, and printing, I fully committed myself to helping my seven year old write a novel of her own next month.  (You can find the post about that and all the neat stuff the YWP offers over on our homeschooling site. )  Still, I planned to skip it myself.  Then, as I helped her through character development and goal-setting and all the prewriting fun, I just couldn't help myself.  My poor little brain went into overdrive creating characters whose voices I'd been ignoring for weeks.  And now they won't shut up.  Woe.  Is.  I.

So, what's a girl to do?

I'll tell you what I'm gonna do.  I'm gonna do NaNoWriMo again, damn it.  And I'm gonna like it.  Even if it kills me.  That's half the fun, right?  I'm looking forward to sharing it with my daughter this year, actually.  So far she's pretty pumped about it.  And I wrote my first morning pages today.  Gosh, it's been a while.  And it felt pretty damn good, too.

What about you?  Who's throwing sanity to the wind along with me next month?
