Sill Kicking

I haven't given up.  I'm battling a week of headaches after the pharmacy finally decided to say late on Friday, "Oh, hey, by the way, they're discontinuing this medication.  You'll have to call your doctor on Monday for something different."   Fine.  Whatever.  I've been meaning to try some new natural remedies and get off the stuff anyway.  Fine.  But then I had a massive TMJ flare-up over the weekend.  Massive.  Which didn't help the headaches.  I spent several days with hot packs on my jaw.  And no, I didn't get much writing done.

I am at about 30,000 words (I haven't been updating my progress bar) right now.  Not too shabby.  50k is out of the question, but I'm always satisfied if I get 40k.  For some reason that always feels doable.  Oh sure, I can push myself and hit 50k, but at what cost?  And why?  I would still have to finish the draft in December.  This whole first draft thing is a two month process.  No matter what.  40k puts me about halfway through the draft and doesn't give me that burnout feeling, so I can still push ahead and finish the darn thing the next month.  So I'm taking it easy for the next couple of days and limiting my screen time (that's probably aggravating the headaches) and getting a grip on my pain and stress levels.  I'll work through it, but that's part of what November's all about.

Shit happens.  What can you get done in the midst of it?  Because there will always be shit.  You just have to wade through the mess and push yourself.

I hope all of you are having a productive NaNoWriMo.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
